It was a beautiful sunny day in Zadar yesterday, and with a blonde Erastothenes looking over us, you can see the children had a brilliant time. In total 18 students participated and they worked in six groups, in teams of three per group. Each group had different calculations but that was also a good experience. The experiment went well, and we exchanged our results with 11 European schools from Poland, Austria, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Italy and Croatia.
We enjoyed the experiment immensely and took many photos. I read that only one should be submitted for the contest so I have included one which I think is very atmospheric. The pupils, Erastothenes, the sea, islands in the background and if you look closely, there is a salining ship with a right angled triangle as its mast. Everything came together !
Regards and best wishes from Croatia. Hope you like the photo
Stephanos, is only one photo allowed to be submitted ?

Hello from High school Hrvatski kralj Zvonimir, Croatia, island Krk. This year I decided to work with only one class in the Erathosten's experiment. We had time to explain and prepare everything, and it was easilly to share roles to our students. We had a nice, sunny day and everything was perfect. Most of the steps from experiment student made individually, by themselves, without teacher ( me ). Several of them learned to use aplications sutch as Stellarium, NOAA Solar Noon Calculator, Google Maps for measuring distance, etc. Every year something more ...

Greetings from Bucharest!
I am Ioana Stoica, a Physics Teacher at Tudor Vianu National High School of Computer Science, Bucharest.
First of all, I would like to thank you very much for this great experiment, it is a great opportunity for my students to learn a lot and to have a lot of fun!
Secondly, please find attached three pictures related to the contest. One of them was taken in March 2014 and the other two on this September 22.
Allow me to explain: in our school I develop a wonderful activity named “Learning by Teaching”. Students of my grades 9, 10 and 11 act as mentors for the students of my grades 6 and 7, guiding them during various scientific activities.
This year my 9 graders acted as mentors for the 6 graders during the Eratosthenes's Experiment. It was so exciting since the same students who in 2014 performed the experiment as 6 graders (guided by some of my then 12 graders) now mentored in their turn their younger colleagues from the current 6th grade!
It was very impressive to watch them explaining the steps of the method and giving a hand with the performing of the experiment.
My then 6 graders turned now into confident and responsible mentors!
So, I attached three pictures, one of them taken in March 2014 (you can notice how cute they were looking back then), and two this September.
Thank you very much, once again, for this wonderful experiment!
Best regards,
Ioana Stoica

The Eratosthenes experiment on the 22nd of September 2016 was a marvellous experience for the students of Cotofenii din Dos Secondary School, Dolj county, Romania. They were so excited about measuring the Azimuth and calculating the circumference of the Earth! They got closer to science, being conducted by the headteacher Sirbu Maria and they cannot wait to repeat the experiment next year!
