Eratosthenes Experiment: 21 March 2016

Following last years’ great success with more than 800 schools from around the world involved in the activity, we are happy to announce the Eratosthenes Experiment March 2016, which will take place on the 21st of March, 2016!

Do not miss the opportunity to participate in this fascinating international event! Register your school here!

To celebrate this event, Ellinogermaniki Agogi offers two scholarships for theISE Summer School Academy 2016 in Greece, with all expenses covered. The participants can win these 2 scholarships by participating in theEratosthenes Photo Contest (1 scholarship) and/or in the Eratosthenes Online Lesson Contest (1 scholarship).

Stay tuned by joining the Eratosthenes Community, where you can also find lesson plans of the experiment based on the Inquiry Based Model. There, you’ll find your country’s community (Network of related communities - on the right) and the lesson plans for primary school and high school in your languages! If you do not have access to computers or tablets your students’ knowledge on the subject will be assessed by the means of an online questionnaire which can be found here. The questionnaire, available in many languages, should be answered before the lesson begins (pre-questionnaire) and after the lesson’s end (post questionnaire) so as to monitor the knowledge obtained by the students.

Students get to reproduce the measurement of the circumference of the Earth, one of the most important scientific measurements ever performed, using the simplest apparatus!

More details on how to do the experiment are on the website: http://eratosthenes.ea.gr/en/content/experiment.

The Eratosthenes Experiment 2016 is organised with support from the European Commission in the context of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).

Join the Eratosthenes Experiment to get a glimpse of FUNdamental science!
