Workshop: Designing for Learning and Inclusion: Universal Design for Learning in action

The workshop is organised in the context of the UDLnet Network. Main focus will be the introduction of inclusive learning strategies that addresses learning variability. 

Grounded on new research in neuroscience and the Design for All principles, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) constitutes an educational approach that promotes access, participation and progress in the general curriculum for all learners. The difficulty is in all cases translating the UDL principles and guidelines into practice. Though the UDL policy context supports a shift to inclusion, professionals need more support to develop their practice. In order to bridge the gap between policies and practice the UDLnet network aspires to address this necessity collecting and creating good practices under the framework of Universal Design for Learning.

To this end in the context of the workshop participants will be informed about inclusive learning strategies that address learning variability and learning in the home and the hospital. A discussion and brainstorming session will follow where participants in teams will evaluate the good practices available in the dedicated inventory (http://udlnet.di.uoa.gr/) and deposit their own practices that promote inclusion. Participants will be invited to become members of a community of practice that will allow them to exchange and share ideas, experiences, concerns and educational resources with fellow teachers across Europe. The session will include presentations followed by practical sessions (brainstorming in groups where a team member will act as facilitator and then present the outcomes of each team’s discussions to the plenary group). Finally, participants’ feedback and requirements will be collected. No particular experience is needed.
