German National Contest Winner Provokes a Change of Perspective

Challenged by a short period of time to come up with an innovative learning scenario focussing on the theme "Innovation in classrooms" the German national contest winner Armin Ohran not only submitted a scenario but implemented it within his school "Jakob-Friedrich-Schöllkopf Schule". His learning scenario "Inclusion – Examining students' willingness and acceptance for different kinds of para-sports - An exemplary class experience" consists of a series of 8 lessons focussing on blind-man soccer and wheelchair basketball. The German ODS community congratulated Armin Ohran who is rewarded with the participation in the ODS Summer School. Coming from a multicultural family with Serbo-Croatian roots he is looking forward to exchange his experiences during this international event.

His learning scenario successfully fostered a change of perspective and provided unforgettable experiences for Ohran's students. "They were always motivated and sometimes I needed even to tighten the strings due to their extremely high engagement. My students did not only compete in a sportive manner but had fun to experience these unfamiliar situations, however disappointment for not scoring due to a handicap should not be kept as a secret" recalls Armin Ohran the implementation phase. Especially some disappointing situations helped to reflect on para-sports and students with physical handicaps. Teambuilding as well as the willingness and acceptance for para-sports became enhanced due to this learning scenario. After translating the scenario into English we are happy to spread the topic of inclusion across boundaries and share it with the European ODS Community. Furthermore this valuable scenario will be part of the International ODS Contest and we wish Armin Ohran all the best for the upcoming voting phase.
