The course is a mixture of introductory ideas and more advance techniques in the use of digital storytelling in the classroom with an emphasis in working with students towards building a story.

Taught and study activities will include:

 Building a story-world

• Creating characters to populate the story world
• Advancing the story by getting characters to act within the story-world in pursuit of their goals
• Working with non-fiction formats
• Producing mindmaps of what their world is or photographing it from their perspective and describing their world from their perspective
• Working with journeys (instead of characters)
• Working with basic (open) technology
• Working on/with videos
• Working on fundamental challenges such as climate change in the classroom

The course aims at strategies to support students understand the value and role of storytelling in learning and experiment with aspects of it in their work in projects (for example). It also aims at facilitating critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving creativity, etc.

Aside from the proposed content, learning outcomes will also focus on:

• Digital Literacy – the ability to communicate with an ever-expanding community to discuss issues, gather information, and seek help
• Global Literacy – the capacity to read, interpret, respond, and contextualize messages from a global perspective
• Visual Literacy – the ability to understand, produce, and communicate through visual images
• Technology Literacy – the ability to use computers and other technology to improve learning, productivity, and performance
• Information or Media Literacy – the ability to find, evaluate and synthesize information.

Participants will be given certificates by the Eurospectives 2.0 Erasmus+ project and by CFR Vigo (the official training body of the region of Calicia in Spain).

The course has been developed and organized in the contest of the Erasmus+  project Eurospectives 2.0. Eurospectives 2.0 (https://eurospectives.info/) stands for encouraging European learners in telling their stories and their perspectives as active citizens. As a spin-off of the strategic partnership, “Digital Natives”, the partnership identifies good practices and lifelong approaches in digital learning and digital storytelling. The project aims to enhance the quality and relevance of digital learning offer in education and youth work by developing innovative approaches and disseminating best practices in the assessment of digital skills. The approach will enable unskilled learners to share their stories, make their voices heard, and participate as active European citizens. The consortium is made up of partners from across several European countries including Germany, the UK, Spain, Greece, Italy and Denmark and it is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
