ConnActions: Education and Industry to improve Science among Youth

The project has been developed for 80 students  16th years old from the Secondary School Santorre di Santarosa (Turin). It has seen the collaboration of the University of Turin (degree course in Pharmacy), Municipal Pharmacies of the City of Turin, and private companies: ProcemsaCandioli PharmaceuticalsAbc Farmaceutici, Reynaldi Pharmaceuticals. It aims to increase students’ motivation and interest in science, to promote collaboration between schools and local stakeholders and to encourage the sharing of experience in teaching science, including the use of new methodologies in the classroom and the contextualization of STEM teaching.

Developing
The involvement of the territory in the educational path will be developed through the following actions:

 

  • Planning and definition of internships in collaboration with company tutors

  • Comparison with parents and sharing of paths

  • Testimonials from external professionals

  • Involvement of parents who make themselves available to present their professional activity

  • Training course on workplace safety

  • Training course on company organization

  •  Principles of science communication and dissemination

  • Company visits.

  • Internship period in several companies in the sector for a total of 4 weeks

  • Disclosure of experience through multimedia

Objectives

  • Maturation of a greater awareness in the choice of post-diploma work

  • Acquisition of skills that can be spent in the world of work;

  • Projection of self in a working environment;

  • Increase the technical-professional skills of our students with a view to using them in looking for a job

  • Improve the linguistic skills applied to the productive sector

  • Establish a collaborative relationship between companies and the school to develop a common design

  • Develop students skills in the field of communication and scientific dissemination

Organisation - WHO do WHAT

Students will perform the following activities:

  • courses concerning safety at work.

  • workshop activities preliminary to the path in the company

  • meetings with company experts

  • visits to companies

  • internships in private companies, public bodies, laboratories involved in life science activities

The business partners will carry out the following actions:

  • Agree with the school of learning units to be carried out to students during the activities of

  • Internship;

  • Monitor student activity by identifying business tutors

  • Complete an internship booklet

  • Complete the final evaluation

The teachers of the class will carry out:

  • Advice and support to the activities of the students

  • Collection of student assessment data

  • Compilation of the final document for the acquisition of skills
