Engage students in mapping the distribution of geologic features on the surface of the Moon, Mars, and Mercury in an open ended, 1 class period session. The goal is to teach observation skills and how to make hypothesis from the observations. The CosmoQuest citizen science interface, used as a stand-alone tool for hands-on exploration of the Moon, Mars, and Vesta allows students to learn what variety of geologic features exist on each of these rock bodies, and to then aid in marking those features. Data submitted by the students is used by researchers, allowing the students to participate in actual science.
