Hello ! My name is Yiorgos Patsoulakis , school teacher at 18th primary school of Keratsini Greece. My students are 10 years old and we had a special Eratosthenes day! All our construction was made by simple - daily materials.
Eratosthenes experiment 22th September 2017-18th primary school of Keratsini - Greece
My experience with my students and the teachers involved was impeccably effective and useful. Students enjoyed every moment of it. The experience was really interesting for the students in that it still arises nearly the same results of the measurement as the one conducted years ago.
This photo is a cute cat that participates in our work :)
Greetings from Turkey
We take part in the experiment for the first time. Our students are 12 years old and they were very enthusiastic and happy to be part of this global event. We caught the motion in the picture.

This our first experiment. We are from Latvia, Pāle Primary School. I am Ilze Šmate, a science teacher (5th and 6th Grade / 11th to 12th years old students).
Country: Croatia
City: Novska
School: High School Novska (Srednja škola Novska)
Teacher: Gordana Divic
This is a picture of students and teachers from Garešnica, Croatia taking measurements for Eratosthenes Experiment.
Experiment was successful. Students enjoyed learning out of the classroom. All of them, divided in pairs, did the measuring. When we returned to classroom we explored how to measure distance between our school and our match-up school in Italy. After contacting our partners in experiment we finally had all information and we did calculation. Result we got was satisfying but we discussed how we could get better result the next time: we decided we would contact more than one school in next experiment.
We used a vise to fix the stick and we checked his perpendicularity with land by a bubble level. We measured the stick and we had attention in measuring shadow at the instant of solar noon.We found the distance of our school from the equator, then we calculate the circonference and the radius of Earth . Happyness in reading results and wish to improve the measurings next time !!

In the first, the pupils say, measuring the circumference of the earth with a stick of 100 cm length, is incredible
but depending on the what they learned in math and the participation of pupils from a school other country located on the same longitude
It became simple and possible
Hello! I'm Hikmet Erdoğan a science teacher from Yunus Emre İmam Hatip Secondary School of Turkey. We did our experiment with my very willing students, thought their disadvantages. Thanks to this experiment, they travelled from their little dream word to the real one. So, they found out Eratosthenes.

During the 22.9.2017. in our city Belgrade it was cloudy and rainy, but did not prevent older students from sharing their knowledge with pupils of the 4th and 2nd class. Activities were followed by presentations, teaching models, drawings and discussion. You can see the details on the link https://www.slideshare.net/secret/1NxL5tfHgIAkkK .
Only a part of the students who participated in the experiment are in the picture.
The students of the Gymnasium School No.12 Botosani,Romania, were very happy to have participated in this experiment with other school. They learned interesting things and enjoyed it!
We thank the organizers for this beautiful experience!

I am Maria Grazia Lupo and you can see in the picture the students of Liceo Scientifico N.Machiavelli, Pioltello, Milan, taking part to the Eratosthenes Experiment September 2017.
We are in the basketball court of our school and are waiting for noon to measure the lenght of the stick shadow. The students' idea for the contest was to represent the meridian on which our school and the partner school are. In order to clarify their idea, they wrote on some paper sheets they hold, some words that unfortunately are very difficult to read. I decided to wrote the same words superimposed on the picture.
We decided to take the picture using a fisheye in order to embed everything in the spherical shape of the Earth.
We enjoed very much taking part to the experint and even for the photographic contest.
Thank you very much for the organization
Teacher's name: Valentyna Mishchenko, class: 8-C, school: Taras Shevchenko Himnazia, Kropyvnytskyi, Ukraine. We integrated in the experiment the following subjects: Maths, Astronomy, History, English, Physics. Three teachers and more than 20 students were involved in the experiment. The measurements were first conducted with the help of traditional ruler (101 cm) and the angle ruler. Then we repeated the experiment with the help of modern laser ruler and compared the results. We also cooperated with Baygeldi Atayev, a Physics teacher at ARI college in ANKARA Turkey and Yunus Emre İmam Hatip Ortaokulu
School from Bolu, Turkey. We conducted the experiment near the solar clock in the front yard of the Central Ukrainian Technical University. By this we wanted to show that Science and Knowledge are eternal, only the tools change. The photo is VR 360 made in Google Street View. Here is the link

The students in gowns represent Science, the students in ancient costumes represent Eratosthenes and his contemporaries, the students in national Ukrainian costumes represent modern school children. Also we have different measurement tools in the photo, from the simple ruler to the laser one.

We have chosen, for our activity, the protected area of the "Isola delle Femmine" near Palermo
This place, chosen because in addition to having the requisites for positioning the instrumentation, also highlights a sea, rocks, sand and island in the background, which is a fascinating synthesis of Sicily's natural beauties. The photo that represents the event, together with the suggestive place, highlights a reference to the participating nation, our hotel institute and synthesizes, with the map world, all the places of the Earth that work together for a common purpose. All this, in a wider perspective, encourages young people to reflect on the importance of synergy among peoples for a common good.
Activity has been managed by 2 teachers, Maria Concetta Catalano and Domenica Marino
